Sujata Ratnam
I never thought that art or design was in me when I was young. But my inspiration came when I came across a designer painting a Dupatta. That moment changed my whole career orientation forever. From studying and wanting to be a CA, to becoming a textile designer.

I'm currently dedicated to teaching the skills and providing the hands-on experience necessary for successful futures, both personally and professionally.
​

My Journey
Late Ms. Sujit Kaur became my mentor and guided me in the journey of art in various fields. Introducing me, not only to textile design but also to design in Fashion, Jewelry, Leather, Shoe apparel, Handloom etc. My training lasted for 5 years. This was a time of exploration and learning that started my journey into the world of art.
I got my first job in 1987 as a designer at Vichitra Art Works under the flagship of Kala Niketan. Thus, starting a new chapter in my life and never looking back. I topped various exams (Delhi school of technical education, was hired by my college as a lecturer and did freelance work with specialization in hand painting on cloth.
This was all followed by a break for 3 years from 2014 onwards, as I had kidney failure till my transplant in 2017.
In 2018, high on motivation and with the support of all my family, I started with Artsy Ratnam- an institute for preparing kids and guiding them for competitive exams like UCEED, CEED, NID, NIFT etc. initially and followed with providing basic courses and classes to students of different age groups. The main purpose of the institute is to help students achieve their dreams and also help them learn the different forms of art and fabric painting.
